Great magazine - bad app

Im a subscriber for the content. I love the magazine, and its a great value for the price. But, the magazine issues take forever to download. I subscribe to several digital magazines - 4 newsstand, one Zinio, and one standalone - and in each one I can be reading new issues in under a minute. This app is 5 to 10 minutes for a new issue (Im not exaggerating) and then the app hounds me to download updates to a magazine issue. Once a magazine is published - I really dont want an update - put it in the next issue.
The new wrinkle in the app - my issue wont download. The issue download button shows "queued" and wont download. So, I checked help. I know Im not the only one with this problem - its in the list. I followed the list of things to try when this happens. I got to the last item - uninstall then reinstall the app. This worked - sort of. My iPad Air is set to sleep after 5 minutes. This wasnt long enough - the issue made it to 60% (last I looked) . When I picked the iPad up and hit the home key, the app opened to reveal a gray "queued" button again and no new issue.
I love the mag - but if I cant download the issues - then this app is worthless.
